If you’re setting up your Shopify store in Singapore and plan to receive payments into your Wise (formerly TransferWise) account, you’ve likely encountered an annoying issue: Shopify Payments asks for a branch code—but Wise doesn’t officially provide one.

Let’s walk through:

  • Why this issue occurs
  • What branch code you should use
  • Why Shopify sometimes “resets” your setup
  • What you can do next
  • Our experience helping merchants overcome this setup issue at MagentoBrain

The Problem: Shopify Requires a Numerical Branch Code

When setting up Shopify Payments for Singapore, Shopify asks for:

  • Bank Account Number
  • Bank Code
  • Branch Code (must be 3-digit numeric)
  • SWIFT/BIC

Wise only provides:

  • Account Number
  • Bank Code: 050
  • SWIFT/BIC: TRWISGSGXXX

The branch code field is mandatory, and it only accepts 3-digit numbers—not “XXX” as commonly advised for Wise accounts.

The Solution: Use 003 as the Branch Code for Wise Singapore

From user feedback and our internal testing, using the branch code 003 works for most Wise accounts in Singapore.

  • Bank Code: 050
  • Branch Code: 003
  • SWIFT/BIC: TRWISGSGXXX

It may allow the form to submit successfully, but…

Why the Setup May Not Save Permanently

Many store owners report this frustrating loop:

  1. Setup form submits correctly with 003
  2. Page refreshes
  3. Shopify again asks to “set up your bank details”

This usually happens due to one of these issues:

  • The Wise account is not officially supported by Shopify Payments in some regions (despite accepting details).
  • Shopify’s backend fails to verify Wise accounts due to missing intermediary bank data.

Shopify may have flagged Wise as a digital-only bank, which sometimes doesn’t meet local payout regulations.

Workaround & Recommendations

Until Shopify formally supports Wise in Singapore (or provides a fix), consider:

  1. Use a traditional Singaporean bank account (DBS, OCBC, UOB) for Shopify Payments setup.
  2. Withdraw Shopify payouts manually to Wise via PayPal or Stripe (if enabled).
  3. Use Stripe as an alternative payment gateway where Wise may be supported more flexibly.
  4. Reach out to Shopify Support and ask whether Wise is supported in SG—they can manually check backend logs.
